What really affects the UYU though is whats happening in Argentina and Brazil because those are the two big neighbours and when either of them has a crisis Uruguay tends to feel the spillover effects. Argentina in particular has been a recurring source of drama with capital flight sometimes flowing into Uruguay which can actually strengthen the peso. The Central Bank of Uruguay manages monetary policy and theyve been fairly orthodox about it which has helped maintain reasonable stability. Inflation has been a persistent issue though not on the scale of Argentina.. usually in the high single digits.
