The central bank has a reputation for being one of the most interventionist in Asia and theyre quite secretive about it. Cross strait relations with mainland China are the big geopolitical wildcard and any escalation in tensions tends to hit the TWD hard though the market has learned to distinguish between rhetoric and genuine risk. Liquidity is concentrated in Asian hours and the onshore market dominates. Tech earnings from the big semiconductor names can move the currency noticeably.
